Today’s Q&A from Friday Five:
What’s your strategy for eluding danger?
I don’t. I am usually in-your-face when there’s a situation, and that’s not necessarily a good thing. LOL! If I witness a friend or loved one being stepped on, the stepee risks dealing with my very vocal opinions and concerns. (Read: no filter. Surprise, surprise.) In the olden-timey days this was the cause of some embarrassment for my then-boyfriend.
As I age, I try (surprisingly without much difficulty) to be a little selective about adding to or causing a situation, but I never put myself in a situation that would be considered dangerous. Looking back on my life, especially my 20’s, I wish I had been a little more selective on running my tita-prone mouth.
What have you recently escaped?
The most dangerous thing I do on a daily basis is get on the highway. I was actually just thinking about that this morning. Each day is becoming almost terrifying for me when I am driving around Austin. I’m not sure if this is just me being an old hag with road rage, or if it’s the exploding population in Austin causing more congestion, or if there are more people on the road who haven’t had solid driving lessons, or maybe most drivers these days are simply assholes, or a mix of all of this. Who knows? Something needs to be done with all this craziness. Maybe Big Brother should at least thing about making people take a safety course every few years. I mean, why not?

The only life-or-death situations we’ve been in have been related to car accidents. (Which were our fault.) Like when my daughter was in that life-altering car accident as a child. Ten years on, the driver of the car has still not fully recovered; Nikki’s body, life, and psyche was simply crushed. Grey escaped with her life…with a broken spine.
When did you last dodge a question?
What question? 😇
Whose slings and arrows of outrageous fortune are you grateful aren’t yours?
For me, this is an interesting question without a simple answer. I feel like 95% of my adult life has been spent being the target of the Universe’s slings and arrows. I know. Woe is me, right? I promise there’s just too much to say on this subject.
What’s something (or who is someone) you’ve rescued?
I’m putting a placeholder here to insert the “Turtle Story” later.
