My invisibility factor is in full swing this afternoon. I heard someone talk about needing to learn how to do [insert boring underwriting stuff] that, golly, I know how to do, if anyone around here cared to recall. I am just going to keep quiet. People seem to forget about me in my little black hole. Whatever, people.
Literally–my cubicle is the 2nd darkest in the department, and I LOVE it. We have had electrical problems, lighting problems, telephone system problems for years. They are currently installing LCD lighting and it will be a sad, sad day when they finally put real lighting above me and my cube-mates.
On top of that, after SEVERAL years of putting up with a certain co-worker’s unprofessional manner, I am about to take one for the team and confront her.
1.) She speaks TOO LOUDLY. Not only is it distracting, it’s very jarring.
2.) We are convinced she needs a hearing check–she listens to thrash metal at high levels all day on her ear buds.
3.) She often comes off (without even trying to hide it) as disrespectful. OMG…I will just stop there.
[Update: when I confronted her, just in a casual conversation-type of confrontation, she laughed it off and said, “I’ve always talked loud.” Regarding being disrespectful, or in my words “direct”, she didn’t see anything wrong with being direct, or in her words “telling like it is.” Yes, she really said that! But she did start turning down the volume of her death metal after that.)
There is no respect or professionalism any more. When the VIP’s in our company retire, which is soon, gone will be the certain panache that you rarely see in the generation after them. People like that loud one over there don’t help the company.
The other day, boyfriend said that he is “finally starting to feel the generation gap”. As am I. I really can’t deal with people who say “like” when I am calling my health insurance company. It doesn’t make me feel confident about your company when I hear you say “Like, ohmagaw. That is, like, a really high deductible.”
Like, I dunno. Maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself?
And by no means should you email a client with “Your welcome.”
Stopping there.
Update 01/30/2020–So much has changed, but I don’t think I even want to get into it. LOL! The loud one and I both no longer work at that company. Republishing this with just a few minor tweaks.
And hey! You kids! Get off my lawn!
